Speeding in Green farm

Speeding in Green farm has been an ongoing issue for many years yet little action has been taken.

In a recent meeting between residents, police and councillors from the Town and County councils. Residents and Town councillors discussed the issues and prompted the police and County council to do more to prevent speeding in the area.

The central point of concern is the mini roundabout on the intersection of Elmore lane E&W with Merlin drive. At the meeting, many vehicles were observed crossing the roundabout at speed in addition to numerous vehicles on the wrong side of the road as they turned into Elmore lane west.

At the meeting I questioned why a mini-roundabout was there at all, suggesting Elmore lane East and West be reconnected and Merlin drive have junctions with stop signs put in place to slow traffic in the area. The roundabout has been raised slightly in an attempt to reduce speeding in the past which clearly has not worked. What’s needed is a rethink of how the junction works to reduce speeding.

I and others have since taken part in training provided by the police to monitor traffic speed and have joined the community speed watch program working to raise awareness of and reduce speeding in the area.
